Modern Concept
The modern concept of animal grooming includes the following set of procedures:
1) hygiene procedures (simply put, bathing your pet);
2) claw cutting (which is especially important for cats who like to sharpen their weapons against all available objects);
3) hair cutting (no “fashionable” animal can do without this procedure);
4) brushing your teeth (this is especially true for aged animals).
And these are not all procedures.
Interesting fact: from a scientific point of view, grooming is the care of a dog or cat in its natural habitat. So if your cat is washing, then she is performing grooming procedures.
History of animal grooming
The ancestor of animal grooming is the horse. Cars appeared relatively recently, so earlier the horse was the only means of transportation for a person over long distances.
Of course, a horse is a living creature that required care, which was not limited solely to feeding and monitoring the health of the animal. Grooms who combed horses’ hair were called groomers.
